On Sunday, 03 April 2022, a 50-year-old suspected member of a drug gang who was on the run, was detained and apprehended by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation team in Ndzhelele Ha-Mavhunga.
This comes after a filed project of dubbed ‘derby’ in 2017 by Crime Investigation in response to the problem of drug peddling in the province, where narcotics dealers were allegedly selling methamphetamines in the Musina region.
Six suspected drug dealers were identified during the inquiry, and four of them were arrested in November 2021 during a sting operation by members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit. The fifth suspect died before being arrested, while the sixth managed to avoid the arrest.
Captain Matimba Maluleke says, the suspect is scheduled to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court for violating the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act as well as the Immigration Act, on the Tuesday, 05 April 2022.
His co-accused are still in detention and will appear in court on 19 April 2022.
