The Portfolio Committee on Community Safety of the Gauteng Legislature along with all South Africans who value peace, calls on law enforcement to pursue every lead in order to quickly apprehend suspects and ensure that they face the full weight of the law for the senseless and terrible killings, following the barbaric shooting that left 15 patrons dead at a tavern in Orlando, Soweto, over the weekend.
The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee Mr Thebe Khumalo say, while the suspected gunmen wander the streets freely, the safety of the residents of Soweto and Gauteng as a whole, is in critical danger.
Chairperson, Honorable Alphina Ndlovana and the Committee demands a rapid improvement of security measures at licensed public drinking establishments to discourage illegal activities and that all surfaces of society must cooperate to stop crime and violence from combining in public gathering areas. In addition, she has asked the public to come forward with any information that could help the police find the suspects.
Furthermore, the Committee has offered their deepest sympathies to the mourning loved ones as well as the Soweto neighbourhood.
