THEFT TRIAL OF FORMER HEAD OF SCCU BEGINS.

The former Head of the Specialized Commercial Crimes Unit (SCCU) in the North West, Adv. Jeanette Nevelling (53) was detained at The Crossing Shopping Mall in Mmabatho on suspicion of theft at a retail store. She was charged with stealing R3000 worth of clothing and food, and she was released on R500 bond on 16 February 2021.

As Nevelling begins with her trial at Molopo Magistrate’s Court, leading evidence and cross-examination of the first state witness have been completed by the state and the defence attorney, respectively. The second state witness, who is a security guard at the location where the alleged crime occurred, has taken the stand, and the court has been given permission to go on an inspection at Woolworths today 14 June 2022.

Following this inspection, judicial proceedings will begin, with the witness continuing to give evidence.

Meanwhile, Adv. Mashudu Mudau of the National Prosecuting Authority’s Division in Limpopo, is representing the state to avoid any perceived conflict of interest, as Adv. Nevelling was a senior official in the North West Division.
