Atalanta head coach pins his hope on Nigerian International
2 min readAtalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini hopes that Ademola Lookman find the back of the net against Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup final at the National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland later on Today (Wednesday).
Lookman was live wire for the Atalanta team that defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the Europa League final back in May, where they broke the unbeaten record of German Bundesliga side.
During the match Nigerian star scored a hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen and he became the sixth player to score a hat-trick in the final of a European competition but he became the first player to do so after 49 years.
Admola showed climpise of last season performance during Atalanta’s first two pre-season fixtures where he scored a goal and forcing an own goal against Parma and AZ Alkmaar respectively.
Today’s fixture its a do or die for Real Madrid as they aim to break the record of being the first club to win seven titles in a single season after securing UEFA Champions League, La Liga, Copa del Rey, Supercopa, Fifa Club World Cup and Fifa International Cup.
Atalanta coach Gasperini thinks Lookman can regain his amazing performance from the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen.
During the pre-match press conference Atalanta head coach highlighted that Nigerian star was the first player to report in for their camp.
Gasperini said “I think he’s doing very well. He was one of the first to come back from his holidays.
“There are players who started a little earlier and others later. Ademola is one of the players who is in the best form.
“No Italian team has played this game in 14 years, which was Inter. In our league there are not many players who have participated in the European Super Cup.
“It’s a very important moment for us. Ademola not only scored in the Europa League final, but we hope he will do so tomorrow.”
