ATU Sligo will host Annual primary school athletics event
1 min readOver One thousand primary school children will represent 40 school across the country at this year’s edition.
The main target of the tournament is relay event that has been occurring for the past 22 years and is firmly established as a highlight on the primary school sports calendar.
The reason behind the event is the success of the Irish athletes who have did well in the Olympics.
Their success during Olympics in Paris has inspired a lot of upcoming generations of the athletes and they will have opportunity to meet the winners.
This year’s event is set to take place at the ATU Sligo on the athletics track on Thursday 26th September.
During the launch of the event CEO Deirdre Lavin stated that their aim for organizing the tournament is to insiper the children.
She said “The event is all about encouraging children of all athletic ability to take part in athletics in a fun and enjoyable environment and it is great to see that the interest from schools this year in the event is stronger than ever.
“In the past many children have gone on to join athletic clubs as a result of their positive experience and enjoyment of the Athletics Fest.”
On this year’s edition the event will be under the sponsorship of SuperValu while County Sligo Athletics Association and clubs, Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership and a team of volunteers will be on hand to oversee the running of the event.
