Football lovers are shocked by the death of Iconic player

South Africa are still surprised by the sad news of former Jomo Cosmos and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Alton Meiring.

Meiring passed away at the age of 48 years old last week Sunday and his cause of death has not yet revealed.

Meiring was one of the profilic striker during his days and he was known for having best IQ among the best players in the world.

Meiring represented many clubs in South Africa during his career, amongst the teams he played for are Mamelodi Sundowns, Santos, Moroka Swallows, and Jomo Cosmos.

He started playing his professional career back then in 1990’s and went on to finish the campaign as one of the top goal-scorer.

His death was not painful for the family only as they former coaches, players, fans and PSL together with SAFA also payed tribute.

Meiring was praised by many fans who managed to watch him and some of the fans have also urged current and upcoming players to take some notes from him.

Former teammates described him as a player who always led by example and never hesitated to mentor upcoming talents.

They said “Alton was not just a great player; he was a mentor and a true professional who gave his all for the game.

“He was always willing to share his experience and guide the younger players, both on and off the field.”

The PSL and South African Football Association (SAFA) have also extended their condolences to Meiring’s family.

They wrote “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Alton Meiring, a player who brought joy and excitement to the game. He will be remembered for his dedication and his role in the growth of South African football.”

After hanging up his soccer boots Meiring went to share his experience as a coach where he coached the development structure.

His burial arrangements will be announced in a due period together with his memorial service will be held during the week.
