Former Bafana Bafana striker encourage Pirates hitman
2 min readThe former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego ‘Mahuta’ Mashego believes on the former Bloemfontein Celtic striker Tshegofatso Mabasa.
Tshegofatso Mabasa is the reigning top goal scorer of the PSL, after finishing the previous season with 16 goals.
After not being called up into national setup during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier together with recent 2025 AFCON Qualifiers, Pirates striker kept proving his quality.
Mabasa managed to stair his side(Orlando Pirates) into the final of 2024 MTN8 final as well as group stages of CAF Champions League.
Into this current season Mabasa ‘Sgwebosentambo’ has scored few goals already and he will be hoping to get his name into the register this coming weekend.
Mabasa caught the attention of the former Supersport United striker Katlego Mashego who offered him a piece of advice.
Mashego said “Mabasa must keep practicing and not to think too much because there are a lot of things that go beyond a player’s control when it comes to being selected for the national squad.
“Player’s accomplishments are best evaluated by their consistent performance and professionalism on the club level, rather than by their number of appearances for the national team.”
Mahuta went on to emphasize that they are other major factors players should focus on them if they want to excell in the color of Bafana Bafana.
He said “There is a lot of rivalry for slots, and the tactical preferences of national team coaches don’t necessarily match up with a player’s abilities.
“The fact that Mabasa is a great striker with a reputation for physicality, aerial prowess, and composure, isn’t currently part of Broos’ plans and that doesn’t take away from his worth or potential.”
Mabasa’s display managed to earn himself a shot into the preliminary squard ahead of Bafana fixture against Congo Brazzaville.
Tshegofatso Mabasa will be hoping to impress national coach once again when his side will take on Richards Bay FC on Sunday for Betway Premiership.
