2 min readEngin Firat the head coach of the Harambee Stars has reacted to the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifying draw where they are paired with Cameroon, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
Engin Firat believes that his team will secure a spot at the 2025 African Cup of Nation after knowing their opponent in the qualifying group stages. Kenya same as Zimbabwe have both missed out of the qualifying for 2023 AFCON that was held at Ivory-Coast early on this year, following a FIFA ban but now they have a chance to correct those wrongs and Firat is determined to help his boys to secure the ticket for 2025 AFCON that will be held in Morocco.
Firat said ” It doesn’t matter how we qualify for AFCON 2025 whether first or second we want to go to Morocco, It’s a very strong group. All of these good teams had good success in the past. We got Zimbabwe you know they were also banned so they drop in rankings but they were good, From my side, I like when all teams are strong this means everybody can beat everybody. It’s not so simple to go through.”
” Nothing changes like I said before the qualifiers we want to go to AFCON [it] doesn’t matter how whether first or second, we want to be in Morocco.”
Cameroon who have won the competition on 5th occasions are the favorites to top the group but they will face a tough opponent Namibia who showed the positive character during the 2023 AFCON where they reached last 16 of the tournament for the first time in their history. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe made three straight appearance in (2017,2019 and 202) and the last time when Kenya and Zimbabwe meet Harambee Stars emerged as victorious by 3-1 at the four Nations tournament in March.
