Local Prison Recieve Football Equipment and Logistics

The Ghana Football Association through the help of GFA Foundation has donated football equipment and logistics to the Akuse Local Prison in the East Region in Ghana. The Director of the GFA Foundation directed a crew from the GFA to present the items.

The contribution of the parcels is part of the GFA Foundation-Ghana Prison Project which seeks to use the power of football to promote the wellbeing, reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates of Ghana’s prisons into society.

The Akuse Local Prison is the fourth recipient of jersey, footballs, goalkeeper’s gloves and sets of football hose under this project. The other parcels presented to the prison were whistles, caution cards ( yellow, red cards & amp) and movable goalposts.

Director of the GFA foundation, Malcolm Fraizer Appeadu mentioned three key of the project. The first key is the football parcels and logistics, the other two equally important keys are coaching, refereeing and mentorship training programmes for inmates and officers as well as advocacy workshop to sensitize the public and the citizenry on the negative impact of discrimination and stigmatization of prisons and prisoners.”

Assistant Director of Prisons and Officer-in-charge Alhaji Ousmane Tasembedo expressed their heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service to the entire membership of the Football Association.

Tasembedo said ” Your generosity serves as a shining example of compassion and community spirit and we are honoured to have such a dedicated partner in our mission to promote positive change and rehabilitation of inmates under our care.”

The inmates were afforded an opportunity do Aerobics session and also asked few questions regarding the project after which their block leader expressed their gratitude to the Ghana Football Association. The other respected member of the Government who were available at the ceremony are Second-in-Commander_ Issifu Abdula: DSP_ Emmanuel Conney: Officer-in-charge of Sports and ASP_ Deynu Gilbert: Second-in-charge of sports and ASP_ Naomi Fainusatu Abdula: Head of football teams.

Those who Accompanied the Director of the GFA Foundation were Mr Kwame Koamoah, Stephen Saforo and Solomon Poakwa from the GFA Head Officer.
