Nigerian Captain advised his team-mate to not undermine their opponents
2 min readThe captain William Troost-Ekong ensures that Super Eagles won’t take Benin lightly when face them on the group stages of AFCON Qualifiers.
Troost-Ekong marks his return to the national set up after their last defeat in Ivory Coast in previous edition of 2023.
He was not part of the group that take part during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa and Rwanda. He was also not part of friendly games against Ghana and Mali.
Nigeria have conceded a total number of seven (7) goals since Troost-Ekong was un-available.
Ahead of their fixture tomorrow the captain revealed that they are well prepared for the fixture and they won’t undermine them either before they take on Rwanda on Tuesday next week.
Troost-Ekong said “We will be more ready. I think it happens, good teams face difficult moments. We also have to give respect to Benin and our old coach Gernot Rohr.
“Like I said this is one of those things that we are better prepared for now and if anything even more motivated.
“We have to learn from those mistakes, so it is not going to be easy these two games against Benin and Rwanda away but I have a lot of belief in the team and we are going to prepare ourselves the best way we can.
“Yeah, football nothing is guaranteed but we can only do our best, I think that will be more than enough.”
Troost-Ekong together with his team mate including technical team will be hoping to collect three points against Benin.
Troost-Ekong just secured a move to Saudi Arabia’s side Al-Kholood and he will be available for the opening two games of the Saudi Pro-League.
