Orogot aims to set another record in the 200m final

In Budapest, Orogot finished collegiate race on the third spot in semifinal Heat 2, that was won by Lyles with Ogando finishing on a second spot. This pushed Orogot to be ranked 13th best at the end of the event.

By the time he crossed the finish line at State de France on Monday evening, the Ugandain racer Torsis Orogot had already set his own new time record at the Paris Olympic in the France Capital.

Orogot was placed on a third lane during the 200m Heat 2 and he finished on a first spot with a time record of 20.32 seconds. And after his victory he stated that the coach motivated him to win heat and get to the semi-finals.

Orogot said “I am happy and I did what I had to do to win the Heat, Coach (Blaine Wiley) told me to win the Heat and let’s go to the semifinals.” He becomes the first ever Ugandan to qualify for the semifinals Heats of this race in Olympic history. Francis Ogola was the last runner from Uganda to participate in 200m Olympic back in 1992 at Barcelona Olympic Games in Spain.

Orogot said “And now I look forward to seeing how to draw in the semifinals and do the same thing all over again and try to win my semifinal.”

He posted a new national record time of 19.75 seconds, which makes him the fifth fastest man in the world this year.

On Wednesday he will participate in 200m Heat 1 with the aim to automatically qualify for the final that will take place on Thursday night.

He said “Make the final. I just have to give my best and we’ll see what happens.

Orogot has proven his worth during the competition of 200m at Championship where he managed to reach semifinals three years in a row.

In Heat 1 semifinals he will be competing with the best such as Kenny Bednarek, reigning gold medalist Andre de Grasse, Alexander Ogando and Ryan Zeze.

He also emphasized that he has grown up and also highlighted that he has learned from his past mistakes.

Orogot said “Right now it’s about learning from past experience and being competitive in every round. I have matured and gotten better as an athlete.”
