"We say it like it is"

Pirates coach promised to respect Stellies

Early on today, media journalist attended the pre conference at training session at Randburg. Pirates will be up against Stellenbosch FC over the weekend for the prestigious tournament of MTN8.

Riveiro acknowledged the threat posed by Stellenbosch, particularly their ability to punish teams on transitions, a trait highlighted by Sundowns’ coach Manqoba Mngqithi before their defeat.

He said “We have to accept Stellenbosch the way they are, We respect them big time. We faced Stellenbosch four times last season, in the MTN8 semi-finals and twice in the league, and we only beat them once.”

He went on to speak about how tough the game it will be as stellies have pace players such as Sanele Barns, Devin Titus, and Bradley Mojela.

Riveiro said “It’s going to be a game where we are permanently under threat because transitions are inevitable. It doesn’t matter how well we prepare; we know it’s coming.”

However, Riveiro was clear that while Pirates need to neutralize Stellenbosch’s strengths, they won’t compromise their own style of play.

The much-anticipated MTN8 final kicks off at 18:00 on Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, where both teams will be fighting for silverware.
