2 min readUEFA took a decision against Barcelona and fined them €10,000 ($11,157) and went on to implement a harsh action against their (Barcelona) fans from travelling to the club’s next away game in the Champions League due to the “racist behaviour of supporters” during the previous fixture agianst AS Monaco.
The sanction came after fans displayed a Nazi symbolism towards the end of the match at the Stade Louis II and, as a result, Barça fans will not be present for the game against Crvena Zvezda on 6th November in Belgrade, Serbia.
Barcelona are not allowed to sell away tickets to anyone, more especially during the UEFA competition match, although that ban is suspended for a period of one year.
It is not the first time Barcelona supports act strange, even during their previous fixture against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes last April at Champions League quarterfinal they received a fined amount of €25,000 for displaying Nazi salutes and racist gestures.
Early on today (Friday 27 September) European football’s governing body released a statement that confirms the banning of Barcelona fans.
European football’s governing body wrote “The charges against Barça relate to racism and/or other discriminatory conduct, per Art. 14(2) of UEFA’s Disciplinary Regulations.
“The Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) had decided to order the enforcement of the suspended disciplinary measure imposed by the UEFA Appeals Body in its decision on 17 April 2024 for the racist behaviour of its supporters, i.e. to ban FC Barcelona from selling tickets to its away-supporters for the next UEFA competition match in accordance with Article 26(3) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations.
“And also to fine FC Barcelona €10,000 and to ban FC Barcelona from selling tickets to its away-supporters for one additional UEFA competition match for the racist behaviour of its supporters.
“Said ban from selling tickets to its away supporters is suspended for a probationary period of one year, starting from the date of the present decision.”
Barcelona vice president Elena Fort was disappointment with they their fans pulled out that gesture and emphasized that such incident will never occur again.
He said “Disgraceful, It’s disgusting and sad that someone who says they love the club acts in this manner. Everything has a limit. This can never be repeated. Never.”
