Torino President defends Bellanova transfer
2 min readTorino president Urbano Cairo has responded to criticism from supporters after Raoul Bellanova signed Atalanta. The move has sparked outrage among Granata fans, who are unhappy with the club’s transfer procedure.
Cairo who is the president of the club emphasized that the player wanted to leave and they can’t stand on the way of any player who feels like he want to leave.
He said “He wanted to leave. I don’t keep players against their will. We have many other valuable players. I’ve invested 72 million euros of my own money into Torino! I’m not a bottomless pit.”
Bellanova joined Torino last summer on amount of 7 million euros from Cagliari after a loan spell at Inter Milan and he played 41 times for the club while scoring once and providing 8 assists. It is rumoured that Atalanta have forked out 25 million euros, including bonuses.
It his second departure from the team with defender Alessandro Buongiorno signed with Napoli for 35 million euros. The back-to-back sales of key players have left Torino faithful shocked and questioning the club’s ambitions.
On his space the club have identified Norwegian full-back Marcus Pedersen as the player who can fill the void left by Raoul Bellanova.
Marcus Pedersen is on the books of Dutch club Feyenoord while he joins the club on loan deal that has the option to buy priced on 4.5 million euros.
Pedersen last season was on loan at Sassuolo and is set to pen down a three-year contract with an option for an additional year.
Despite signing Norwegian full-back Marcus Pedersen, Torino already added another option at the back by securing the service of Albanian-born Kosovan winger Mergim Vojvoda with a new contract until June 2027.
