In the evening of Saturday, 16 July 2022, at 23:30pm, a Flying squad police officers who were on patrol duty along Kerk Street, arrested a 28-year-old man who was in a possession of an unauthorized firearm,
This comes after hearing gunshots and noticed a white Corolla Quest speeding through red traffic signals while skipping them in the area.
Captain Xoli Mbele says, the car was pursued and stopped at the intersection of Nugget and Commissioner Street, where the suspects was found in possession of unauthorized pistol and a suspect with an upper body gunshot wound which was discovered in the back seat of the Uber Taxi.
Mbele says, the early investigation declared a stolen firearm at Sophiatown Police Station last month. The pistol is subjected to ballistic testing in order to determine if the firearm was used in the commission of other major and violent crimes.
Furthermore, police are manning the suspect in the hospital, and will shortly appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court once an investigation has begun.
