MEC BOSHIELO CHEERS THE SUCCESS OF THE ROAD SAFETY OPERATION
1 min readLimpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Polly Boshielo in partnership with Eskom-Medupi Power station, Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) and Lephalale Local Municipality, applauded the successful execution of a road safety operation that was rolled out on the 28th July 2022, in Lephalale.
The implementation comes after the power station learned that many of their employees fall victim of road accidents due to irresponsible and reckless driving during end of the month weekends. This joint operation is an initiative of Eskom-Medupi through the National Department of Transport and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) since 2017, its progress was interrupted by Covid-19 restrictions in 2020.
Departmental Spokesperson Ms Tidimalo Chuen says it is the fifth year since the initiative started and the power station is already seeing positive results. Mr. Johannes Sebetha of Medupi says although they have lost many skilled workers due to road accidents, they are starting to see less of incidents that previously robbed them their skilled employees.
Furthermore, the Department’s Road Safety Promotion team used the opportunity to give out Road Safety information and educate motorists on consistent adherence to road safety practices, even when no one is watching.
