MEC LESUFI LAUNCHED JOHN ORR ENGINEERING SCHOOL OF SPECIALISATION.

The Gauteng Education MEC Mr Panyaza Lesufi has on Thursday,18 August 2022, launched John Orr Engineering School of Specialisation in partnership with Sasol and other companiesbwith a focus on renewable energy and alternative sources of energy in Milpark, Johannesburg.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), as part of its strategy, is enhancing and increasing the number of Schools of Specialisation. The GDE has launched 18 Schools of Specialisation across Gauteng. These schools are beginning to address the skills needs.

Department of Education’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona says on 26 July 2022, they launched Tembisa Commerce & Entrepreneurship School of Specialisation with a focus on Tourism and Hospitality and they continue to launch such schools to change the education landscape in Gauteng which will subsequently benefit the Country.

He says learners will be equipped with technical skills when they complete grade 12. They will be engineers, ready to study further and go to companies like Sasol or start their own businesses.

Meanwhile, grade 11 learners had the opportunity for workplace exposure at Umphakathi Development and Training, Industri Tools and Equipment, VNU Industrial Supplies, JTB Industrial Solutions and Ifihlile Training Academy. About 10 grade 11 learners completed an advanced plumbing programme with Umphakathi Development and Training.

Furthermore about 813 learners enrolled at the school with 63 staff members.
