R16M ALLOCATED TO REBUILD DESTROYED HOUSING STRUCTURES IN THE EASTERN CAPE.

The deputy minister of Human settlements Pam Tshwete announced the allocation of R16M towards rebuilding the destroyed houses at the Alfred Nzo District municipality following the recent flood disaster.

Tshwete says a total of R8.5M will be transferred on Tuesday the 12th of June 2022. “These funds will only be used for human settlements developments and nothing else”, said Tshwete. Deputy minister announced during the handover of houses at Ludeke village, under Winnie Madikizela Mandela municipality in Bhizana Eastern Cape, that the allocation will be used for affected households in Ntabankulu, Umzimvubu, Matatiele and Winnie Madikizela Mandela local municipalities.

The houses beneficiaries included the 81-year-old Gogo Masoso and 71-year-old Gogo Mphetheni. Tshwete emphasized that the delivery of housing to the vulnerable group such as people living with disability, child-headed homes and elderly people will remain responsibility of the government.

The MEC for Human Settlements Nonceba Kontsiwe outlined the provincial department’s budget allocation of R1.4B, expected to deliver over 7000 housing units to the vulnerable group.
