SIX LIFE TERMS AND 70 YEARS FOR KILLING THEIR FRIEND AND HIS MOTHER

Alex Hlumela Mashaba (23), Silence Magata Thanysha (25), and Koketso Malobi (26) are charged with two life terms and 15 years imprisonment each, for two counts of murder, and robbery with aggravating circumstances. However, Lethabo Gift Ntsoane (20), was sentenced to 25 years each, for two counts of murder and 15 years for robbery.
This comes after Rorisong Given Matsene a friend to the crew and his mother Kgomotso Dorah Matsene were strangled, covered with plastic on their heads, tied it with a cable tie and put in a bath tab full of water in separate occasions on the 23 July 2019, They then took the car Renault Cleo, Plasma Television, sound system, laptop, and cell phones, which were sold at R3000 for the electronic appliances, and the car for R10000 and shared the money.
NPA Regional Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana says, the bodies of the deceased were discovered on the 26 July 2019, by the daughter of the deceased, who at the time of the incident was in university. She told the court that because she couldn’t reach her mother on the phone for a couple of days, she decided to go home.
The four were arrested on the 04 and 05 of August 2019, and have been in custody since, besides Ntsoane because he was 17 years old at the time of the offence.
Furthermore, at the Pretoria High Court, the State Prosecutor Adv. Robert Molokoane told the court to impose a sentence of life imprisonment, and the Judge agreed with the state which it handed down a sentence to the four suspects on the 03 October 2022.
