The National Crime Intelligence Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has reached yet another breakthrough in less than five days.
This comes after a Vereeniging businessman, Zaheer Asmal, was kidnapped at his business premises on Friday morning.
The Task Team led a multi-disciplinary operation including members of the Special Task Force (STF), the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD), and private security shortly before midnight on Monday.
Colonel Athlenda Mathe says police arrested the property’s owner a Mozambican man aged 70 at this address, meanwhile a dark grey Toyota Hilux and fake registration number plates at the second house in Ennerdale was discovered at which were used in the crime.
Furthermore, a Malawian national was arrested as one of the suspects. This includes a South African man who was also arrested and with him was a firearm that was not licensed which was confiscated after police were met with gunfire when they arrived at the third address in Roodepoort. All three suspects are accused of kidnapping and robbery with severe circumstances.
