TWO ESKOM SECURITY GUARDS AND TAXI DRIVER APPREHENDED FOR CABLE THEFT

 Two Eskom contracted security guards and a minibus taxi driver were arrested in the early hours of Saturday, 18 June 2022 after they were caught with a minibus taxi full of copper cable at an Eskom warehouse in Rosherville, Germiston. This follows an investigation conducted when the minibus taxi was spotted driving towards the back of the utility’s warehouse.

Eskom Middle Manager for Safety, Health, Environment and Quality says it is regrettable to learn that the personnel that was meant to protect Eskom and the infrastructure are the ones stealing from them, they are most impressed with the level of alertness and quick reaction by their in-house security officials in foiling this planned theft.

He furthermore says the arrest will send a strong message to criminals, especially those within, are wide alert to safeguard the assets of Eskom to ensure that the mandate to provide electricity is not interfered with.

 The three remained in custody after they were denied bail on their first appearance in court on Monday, 20 June 2022.
