Leeudoringstad Magistrates’ Court postponed a murder case against Lazarus Chaka Hambone (38), on the 16 November 2022 to 22 November 2022, for consultation, after Legal Aid attorney requested a further postponement to consult with in, preparation for bail application and the court granted it.

Police reports revealed that Hambone was apprehended on Sunday, 6 November 2022, for the alleged murder of a five-month-old baby boy, at Extension 4, Kgakala Township in Leeudoringstad.

It is alleged that Hambone had an argument with a 16-year-old mother to a five-month-old infant who was carrying the baby on her back on Saturday, 5 November 2022.

NPA Regional Spokesperson Henry Mamothame says Hambone then went outside and came back with a spade, and tried assaulting his niece, but ended up hitting the five-month-old baby boy. The baby was ultimately taken to Tshepong Hospital, where he died due to head injuries.

Furthermore, Hambone will remain detained in police custody until the next court appearance for a formal bail application.
