Alan Shearer reveales one player that wasn’t happy with Gareth Southgate

England were left devastating after being beaten by Spain in the final of Euro 2024 on Sunday evening.

Alan Shearer has issued his view regarding Jude Bellingham that was left dissatisfied with the England head coach Gareth Southgate’s information towards the players during the Euro 2024 final where they were up against Spain.

The England side dealt another crushing blow as they were defeated for the second time in a row in the European Championships final on Sunday (14 July 2024) at the Olympiastadion in Berlin Germany, with Spain claiming a score-line of 2-1 courtesy of goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oryarzabal.

Shearer stated that one of the English side star player was not happy and also some of the players were not willing to play on the left side.

Shearer said ”Bellingham wasn’t happy. He was stuck on the left again. You could tell he wasn’t happy at all. He had a disappointed look about him, his arms were up, he was looking towards the bench for guidance.

”He could see things weren’t going well and he wasn’t happy with the lack of press and everything else. He was showing all of those emotions. I could see it, I was looking at him all the time. He was showing it to the bench.”

Shearer stated that the frustration of Bellingham over Southgate’s tactics ended up interrupting the flow and plans of the the team in a sour way.

The Newcastle Legend said ”He’s not a left midfielder is he so I sort of understood his emotions. I was really surprised Gareth Southgate went back to four at the back . Our best 45 minutes of football in the whole tournament was when we played three at the back in the first half against the Netherlands. I thought he would go for that system again. It’s clear [Phil] Foden and Bellingham don’t want to play on the left in that system.”

Despite the negative respond from Shearer, Bellingham showed his support towards the coach Southgate during the match-post acknowledging the impact the manager had and stated that he will always respect him(coach) regardles of future decisions.

Bellingham said ”Whatever happens with Gareth, I’ll always respect him, If he stays then I’ll be even more determined to win something for him because he deserves it. Sometimes the numbers and the kind of statistic, the records don’t lie, he’s been our most successful manager since 1996. So whatever he decides, he will always have my respect and my love.”
