Former Bafana Bafana midfielder reveals the role he wants to play for Stars of Africa

South African star May Mahlangu doesn’t plan to hang-up his soccer boots yet, but he has already put things in plan once the right time arise for him to decide to retire from the football industry.

May who is 35 years-old still believes that he can run with the young/fresh blood for the upcoming two(2) to three(3) years and he hope he can still play his career abroad even though the star player has attracted the interest from the KZN outfit Amazulu FC.

Mahlangu has been keeping himself busy as well as fit with Stars of Africa, which is the Academy that afforded him opportunity before he made the move abroad while he was still a young sensational teenager.

Former Chiefs coach who is players agent Farouk Khan together with experienced player May Mahlangu have been inspiring the young players at the academy and he feels that he can play a big role in creating opportunity for more South African players to show case their talent abroad.

May Mahlangu stated that his desire is to work with Farouk Khan to mold the academy players then transfer them to Europe as he know many people over there.

Mahlangu said ”After football, I have home. This (Stars of Africa) is my home. Even if I come coach these boys or help them get scouted in Europe. I have connections. I know people and if these boys are doing well, I can speak to Farouk and say ‘coach, maybe this boy can go abroad’. So, I will be that link.

”But I just want to remain in football. I need to give back with all the knowledge that I have. I am not applied to be a coach. I am not an agent, but I can help with the little knowledge that I have for these boys to go to Europe.”

Mahlangu spend his time of playing professional career in Europe, the last time when he had club it was back then in 2022 while playing for Aksu FC in Kazakhstan. He still hopes that he can play in Europe until he retires, while he targets to end his career in Turkey and according to reports Istanbul Club has shown interest in the former Bafana Bafana star.

After the reports making rounds on the social media pages the former Bafana star suggested that he has not retired yet and he wish to get at least a contract that runs for a minimum of 2 years.

Mahlangu said ”There is hope for me to get something abroad. I have not retired yet. I am hoping to get a two- year contract.”
