A 33year old man charged with fraud and contravening the Tax Administration Act, appeared in the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday, 11 May.

It is alleged that the accused, Riverly Engineering (PTY)Ltd’s Director, Vusi Charclass Dlamini submitted fraudulent tax return claims to the South African Revenue Service (SARS) between May 2014 and January 2017, which as a result, SARS suffered a loss of approximately R6.6 million.

Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu added that after probing into the allegations, authorities discovered that Riverly Engineering (PTY)Ltd did not exist. Dlamini’s business account was subsequently closed for transactions.

A warrant of arrest was issued for Dlamini’s apprehension and authorities circulated him on the local and international boarder movement control system.

On Wednesday 13 May, Dlamini handed himself in at the Germiston office where he was subsequently charged and on the same day, the investigation team successfully placed Dlamini’s case on court roll for his first appearance.

The court remanded Dlamini in custody pending investigation and the case is postponed to Wednesday, 18 May for a formal bail application.
