The Vryburg Magistrates’ Court denied five murder suspects bail and granted one co-accused bail of R5000. They are charged with the murder of Lucky boy Mareekae(30).

Police reports reveal that Mereekae’s lifeless body was found at the corner of Vry and De Kock street, with several stab wounds on 02 April 2022. The report further reveals that the suspects were from a tavern outside Vryburg when they met Mereekae. After a quarrel had ensued, the suspects allegedly took out knives and stabbed Mereekae several times on the body. In-depth investigations by the police led them to the Huhudi location, where the six suspects were apprehended and weapons used to commit the offence confiscated.

Ntlafatso Velele(21), was granted bail under the conditions that he should report to the Vryburg police station on Mondays and Fridays, and he should attend school regularly and perform to the court’s satisfaction. Meanwhile, Keaobaka Motswamere (26), Tlotlo Serapelwane(22), Mosimanegape Segotlong(26), Obakeng Matiting(23) and Thabiso Seane(22) will remain in police custody, as the court found no exceptional circumstances to grant them bail. They also failed to provide proof of being school attendees.

NPA Regional Spokesperson Henry Mamothame added that the five will remain in police custody until the next court appearance, while Velele is also expected to present himself on the set court date.

The case was postponed to 14 June 2022, for further investigation
