Seventh seed becomes first Italian woman to advance to Wimbledon final

Seventh seed Jasmine Paolini breaks the record of being the first Italian women to advance to the Wimbledon final, after defeating Croatian Donna Vekic at the set of 2-6, 6-4, 7-7(8) on Wednesday in the longest women’s semi-final at All England Club.

Barbora Krejcikova breaks the record of reaching her first Wimbledon final after seeing off her challenger Elena Rybakina in the second semi-final. The Czech Krejcikova defeated Rybakina by the set of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to book her place in the finals where she will face Paolini in the final on Saturday.

On July 13th, Saturday will see the women’s singles final played at the All England Club at 2 p.m at the British Summer Time(GMT +1). Wimbledon is the third Grand Slam of the season. By making the final Paolini and Krejcikova have assured themselves 1,300 points and £1,400,000. The winner will earn 2000 points and £2,700,000.

After her victory Paolini stated that it is important for her to focus on what she loves and revealed that the match was so intense.

Paolini said ” These last months have been crazy for me, I am trying to focus on what I have to do on court and I love playing tennis. It is amazing to be here and it is a dream, I think it was an intense match and I tried to play my best and now it’s time to recover, I think I need an ice bath as my legs are a little bitytire.”

The previous Wimbledon longest semi-final was between Serena Williams and Elena in Dementieva 2009, where they played for Two Hours and Fifty minutes. The 28 year-old Italian is the first woman to get to the title matches at the French Open and the Wimbledon in the same season, since Serena Williams in 2015 and 2016.
