Sri Lanka T20 captain steps down ahead of India series

India will travel to Sri Lanka for a set of series which will begin with three T20s that will take place on July 26, 27 and 29 at the Pallekele International Stadium. On Thursday Wanindu Hasaranga stepped down as the Sri-Lanka captain in T20 Internationals ahead of their upcoming three-match series against India.

Sri-Lanka Cricket(SLC) released a statement that confirmed that Hasaranga has handed over his captaincy duties and remain with team as a player.

SLC said ” Sri-Lanka Cricket wishes to inform the public that National Men’s 20I Captain Wanindu Hasaranga has decided to resign from the captaincy, Hasaranga said it is the best interest of Sri-Lanka Cricket that he decided to relinquish the captaincy duties and remain in the side as a player.

The last time when Hasaranga captained Sri-Lanka was in the T20 World Cup where the 2014 champions failed to reach the super Eight round. Hasaranga revealed that he will give his best to his Country.

Hasaranga said ” Sri-Lanka will always have my utmost best efforts as a player and I will support and stand by my team and leadership as always.”

Sri-Lanka stated that they have accepted the decision that was taken by Hasaranga for handing over his resignation as the captain of the team.

” Sri-Lanka Cricket while accepting his resignation wishes to state that Hasaranga will remain an important player for us in our International Cricketing plans.”
