After making a move to the Emirates Stadium in amount of £34m from Ajax Amarstadam during previous season, Timber suffered a horrible first season with the Gunners.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta provided defender Jurrien Timber injury update. After sustaining a serious knee injury on his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest in August, the Netherlands international didn’t returned to top-flight action until the last day of 2023-24.

With tests from team doctors, the player was declared fit to train with the rest of the squad as he was featured in previous match. Timber managed to register 22 minutes against Everton on May 19 as a welcome boost to all concerned and setting Timber up to play a full role in pre-season.

That was the first of good things for the defender during the opening two encounters against Bournemouth and Manchester United. The 23-year-old defender was not available on Wednesday night as he missed his second Arsenal match fixture against Bayer Leverkusen.

Arsenal had a fantastic performance at the Emirates Stadium scoring 4-1 goals against strong opponents who finished last season’s Bundesliga campaign without a single defeat. With goals scored by Oleksandr Zinchenko, Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz as they prepare to face Lyon ahead of the club’s final pre-season fixture over the weekend.

After the game, Arteta spoke about the fitness of Timber, who has missed the major part of last season due to injury he sustained. Apart from having doubts over his previous knee injury, the Spaniard revealed that it was a foot issue that kept him out of action.

Arteta said: “Jurrien Timber had little discomfort in his foot the last few days. After the time he has been out, we did not want to take any risks.”

Arteta is sweeting over the fitness of his center back Timber before their opening of Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 17.

There has been speculation about the future of Zinchenko but the Ukraine international showed on Tuesday night that he is ready to fight for his place.
