Formula 1 will be hosting six events of Sprint races during the 2025 season with one addition that was not included this year.

Sprint races were implemented in 2021 in a bid to liven up Grand Prix weekends as a whole and increase the spectacle that is F1. While there have been critics of the format most notably defending Champions Max Verstappen who stated that Sprints are ” not really a race” there’s no denying that there have been several exciting Sprint races in the past.

According to TV figures don’t lie, According to F1 viewership for the Chines and Austrian Sprint races were up to 40% and 76% respectively compared to previous year’s FP2 sessions which they replaced. F1 and FIA have opted to keep the format for 2025, sticking with six locations across 24 rounds. Sao Paulo has held a sprint ever since 2021 and will continue to do so in 2025.

Shanghai and Miami will host their second consecutive Sprint while Austin and Qatar return for a third year running. Fans will be delighted to see the iconic de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium entertain a Sprint race after it’s removal this year.

The President and CEO of the Formula One Group Stefano Domenicali said that Sprint produced the good results and the proof of that is the number of audience who keeps watching it.

Domenicali said ” The Sprint has been a great success for formula 1, bringing all our fans more action and racing on the track. We are seeing the proof of this in our audience data, fan attendance on Fridays and from the promoters and partners.”
