Former Pirates keeper says he needed time to heal

Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo shared what happened regarding his role at the Buccaneers after deciding into early retirement in 2021.

Three years ago Mohlongo sustained eye injury while at practice with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and hunged up his gloves at the age of 30 years.

Mohlongo enjoyed his professional career at Pirates and has been involved in different project an now has told media publication Soccer Laduma that he is willing to guide current and former players find purpose of life after retiring.

Mohlongo said “I’m currently the assistant creative director for Orlando Pirates production. So, I’m heavily involved on the production side of things. On the field, there was one of those (things) where I needed to catch a breather and still heal properly.

“I don’t want to be heavily involved on the field while I still have those critical attachments. It was a thing of… I just need to heal emotionally and then maybe we’ll see where it takes us.”

Mohlongo scored the Gig of being production team at the Orlando Pirates Football Club and he highlighted that he need spare time to heal from the horror incident he endured.

After securing the gig with Buccaneers the former keeper has already traveled across South Africa to watch and scout the talent and he was left suppressed by the son of Bradley Ralani’s son Emile Witbooi at Erica Park in June.
