Kenyan Runner passed away in a tragedic manner

On Thursday, Kenyan’s Olympic Committee announced sad news of Rebecca Cheptegei who participated at Olympic in Paris that she lost her life after being brutally killed using a petrol and set on fire by her boyfriend. Cheptegei was burned and according to doctors her body sustained 80 percent damage in the attack that took place in her Kenyan home on Sunday.

She competed in the women’s marathon at the Olympics Paris 2024 Olympics on 11 August, retaining 44th spot.

Donald took to his X page to confirm the shocking news regarding the runner Rebecca Cheptegei.

He wrote “We have learnt of the sad passing on of our Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei… following a vicious attack by her boyfriend.”

Police had said a man named as Dickson Ndiema Marangach, identified as her partner, had allegedly doused Cheptegei with petrol and set her alight in an attack on Sunday at her home in Endebess in the western county of Trans-Nzoia.

Kenyan media had reported that one of Cheptegei’s daughters witnessed the assault at her mother’s home.

She revealed the whole scenario of what happened on the day her mother lost her life in a brutality way.

She was quoted sayin “He kicked me while I tried to run to the rescue of my mother. I immediately cried out for help, attracting a neighbour who tried to extinguish the flames with water, but it was not possible.”

The death of Cheptegei come two years later after Damaris Mutua was found dead in Iten, a world-famous running hub in the Rift Valley.

The Females athletes from Kenya keeps on losing their lives in the hands of their husband and boyfriends.

Back in 2021, Kenyan runner Agnes Tirop who was 25 years old, lost her life after being stabbed multiple times at her home in Iten. Her estranged husband is on trial over her murder and he has denied the charges.

According to the statistics in Kenya women are experiencing violence at an early age and the statistics released in January 2023 proves that 34% of women experience abuse at the age of 15 years.
